Bio

As a Senior Consultant, Krista and her team help clients with the purchase and sale of businesses. They investigate whether a potential buyer’s perception of an acquisition target is accurate. It makes sense for a company to be sold to present itself as nicely as possible, but they dive deeper. How does it really look? Where are opportunities or risks? It’s fun, exciting work. It feels good to be able to give clients new insights. From her expertise, she can point out things to them that they might not have thought about before, or would not have come across so quickly themselves.

Every few weeks Krista completes an assignment. This is convenient because she likes the variety, short timelines and project-based work. At BDO, she gets the challenge she needs. Originally Krista comes from the Accountancy and Business Advisory (A&B) department, but has wanted to join BDO’s acquisition practice for some time. Client contact, depth, deals and targets … that appealed to her. Fortunately, there is an awful lot possible internally if you indicate that you want something different. She could easily make the move she wanted and doesn’t regret it for a second.

At home, Krista likes variety just as much. Her partner works hard, they have a young son and are building a house. But she always makes time for extensive baking. There too she seeks variety by trying something new each time. Although that remains a hobby: she loves the challenges of work too much. As a dealmaker, she is right at home.

What are the specialties of this talent?
As a manager, Krista, together with her team, assists our clients in the buying and selling of businesses. They investigate whether the image that a potential buyer has of a takeover target is accurate. It is understandable that a business for sale presents itself in the best possible light, but they dig deeper. What’s the real situation? Where are the opportunities or risks? It is exciting and enjoyable work, and it feels good to be able to provide clients with new insights.  Based on her experience and expertise, Krista points out aspects to clients that they may not have thought of or that they would not have come across. She will always share her honest opinion with the client, even if it is not always the news the client wants to hear.

Every few weeks, she and her team complete a project, which is convenient as Krista loves variety, short timelines, and project-based work. At BDO, she gets the challenge she needs.

Krista originally came from the Accountancy and Business Advice (A&B) department, but she had wanted to move to BDO’s Deal Advisory practice for a while. Client contact, deals, a deeper understanding of a transaction and the type of targets appealed to her.  Fortunately, a lot is possible internally if you indicate that you want something else. This made it easy for her to make the transition she wanted, and she has not regretted it for a second, which is noticeable.  At home, she also loves variety. Her husband works hard, they have two kids, and they recently built their own house. But she always makes time for extensive baking and tries something new every time. Although it is her hobby, she loves the challenges her job offers much. “As a dealmaker, I am in the right place,” she says.

Krista has been involved in a large number of transactions spreading into various sectors, such as private equity, technology and business services. Krista has worked with notable Dutch and international private equity clients. Her preference goes out to the small and mid-market focused investors in the Netherlands.

Building a strong and warm relationship with the client is highly possible in this segment. She can also utilize her pragmatic approach, which aligns well with BDO Deal Advisory.

Latest deals she worked on were the acquisition of Kasparov by Public Search (Bolster Investment Partners), the investment of Whitevision by Main Capital, and Berk Partners with the sale of HSU Groep to M80 Partners. Besides, she advised NewPort Capital which acquired OrangeValley, a Dutch online marketing agency. With an active buy & build strategy, Krista and her team advised NewPort Capital on the add-on acquisitions of MvH Media, OrangeValley, AdResults and Increase.

Krista is especially skilled in the technical aspect of financial due diligence, such as dealing with complex accounting matters as well as performing insightful analyses on large datasets. During the most intense moments of the deal process, Krista remains calm and focuses on the key deal considerations at hand.

How does the talent distinguish itself from its peers?
Krista originally comes from the Accountancy and Business Advisory (A&B) department of BDO. Because of this, she has a deep knowledge of accounting and can apply a very pragmatic approach, which is reflected in her client contact and how she looks at presenting the financials to a client. During her time at the Accountancy and Business Advisory (A&B) department, she pursued and successfully completed the Parttime Master of Business Administration.

Since 2018, she has been working at BDO Transaction Services, which is part of BDO Deal Advisory. Krista quickly learned the ropes of financial due diligence and deal aspects, taking on additional responsibilities at every opportunity. At BDO, Krista entered the next phase of her career and took on a leading role on many engagements. Within the team, Krista has become the go-to for challenging projects demanding a high level of technical expertise. To what extent does the talent makes the difference to clients?
Krista and her team are checking whether the image a potential buyer has of an acquisition target is correct. It is logical that a company for sale presents itself in the best possible way, but Krista delves deeper. She takes the helicopter view and is critical. How is the company really doing? Where are the opportunities or risks? She really enjoys the work and has fun. For her it really feels good to be able to provide a client with new insights. From her expertise, she can point out things to them that they may not have thought of, or that they wouldn’t have come across so easily themselves.

The way she presents her key findings to the client is very structured and fact based, but Krista will not hesitate to share her ‘gut’ feeling about an acquisition target.

Clients continuously praise Krista for her unquestionable work ethic, work life balance, knowledge of business drivers, financials and deal dynamics, and timely turnaround of complex data analyses. She has a keen eye for identifying and communicating important valuation considerations within large amounts of detailed information.

“Educating” but especially having a warm and strong relationship with their clients is key. Krista and her team operate in a market segment (small and mid-cap) where the relationship between their client and the target is crucial, as they will need to work together in the future. Therefore, Krista’s pragmatic approach is essential in establishing a trustworthy relationship with the target and managing deal-related tensions. For a target, this is often a once-in-a-lifetime event. Krista’s hands-on and pragmatic approach is invaluable in guiding and addressing the questions that the target may have.

Moreover, they need each other to deliver quality work. Therefore, BDO Deal Advisory invests in client relationships and building trust. Trust is the basis for working with each other and we have respect for each other. Our clients recognize Krista’s integrity. In addition, clients are asked to confidentially inform us in a timely manner what they expect in terms of assignments so that we can take this into account in the planning and with our people. This results in colleagues having structure, being more motivated, happier, and better able to manage projects. In this way, Krista contributes to the work-life balance for the entire team.

Why does the talent deserves this nomination?
Clients continuously praise Krista for the quality of work she delivers, the pragmatic approach, knowledge of financials and deal dynamics, and timely turnaround of complex data analyses. Her team is very important to her, and she ‘protects’ them so that the team always has a good energy balance.

She has a keen eye for identifying and communicating important valuation considerations within large amounts of detailed information. Krista continuously exceeds clients’ expectations by proactively seeking answers to questions before they get raised and leaving no stone unturned. She is seen as an integral member of a client’s deal team and keeps in close contact on a day-to-day basis to ensure a dynamic way of working with her team.

Krista manages her work-life balance extremely well in a dynamic work environment and a busy family life. From Deal Maker to home baker! She got promoted while she was on maternity leave, came back from maternity leave for her daughter just a year ago, and is managing everything brilliantly.
