Waarom is hij of zij de Best Young M&A Talent?
Bastiaan is a unique Deals professional, with a more than 10 year track record in advising on
transactions. Through his extensive deals experience and his MBA from Colombia, he combines a unique set of skills that make him add value in every deals engagement he is active in. He works on 20-30 deals every year, many of them successful. As an example, in 2017 alone he supported g-square in acquiring Duomed, Egeria IQI and Foreman Capital Van den Bos.

Wat zijn de specialiteiten van de genomineerde?
What sets Bastiaan apart is his broad portfolio of skills that he puts at work in a deal. His core competence is in strategy, implying he can digest a business plan and pressure-test it against market and competition and have strategic discussions with management, investors and banks. He combines this with strong financial skills, enabling him to build financial forecasts to the cash flow level, as exemplified in his many refinancing and restructuring assignments, in which he often works one-on- one with banks to build and fill models. Being able to develop an in-depth view on a market and translate that into cash-flows remains a unique trait in this market, that tends to create functional specialists.

In all assignments, Bastiaan develops an expert view on the relevant market. There is hardly a niche industry in the broader industrial products and services, agriculture and deregulating industries that he has not digested. He is always ready to have a conversation, present an
educated point of view on a market and provide the latest insights. Bastiaan takes on responsibility that exceeds what is expected from him. He is the linking pin in the assignment, being primary contacts for clients, taking ownership for team and ensuring all third parties (e.g. potential investors, experts) are optimally involved to create the best outcome for a client. Whatever the case, Bastiaan remains independent and develops an objective view. Bastiaan is guided by facts and information, not by opinions and desired outcomes. Every conclusion is pressure-tested in team meetings and scrutinized against available information.

Waarmee onderscheidt hij of zij zich van de andere M&A professionals?
Bastiaan has a mature personality and is able to engage and enthuse C-level clients through his conversations. He is deeply engaged with his clients and builds personal rapport as well. He has built a long list of promoters in the market, who reach out to Bastiaan directly on potential transactions, to get his views on assets, process and financing structures.

In the office, he inspires his teams, shows role model behavior and attitude and has become the most sought after person to work with in the broader PwC Deals teams – for consultants and partners alike. His teams tend to go the extra mile in projects and are excited by the value the value they add in the projects and the learning experience they get. Team dinners and events are legendary.

Bastiaan is also involved in broader societal discussions, as is exemplified by e.g. his work on ESG in private equity, together with the Nederlandse Vereniging van Participatiemaatschappijen (NVP). He actively engages colleagues on topics that are close to the heart. He is actively trying to change the way that investors look at their role in society.
