Company: HVG Law
Job Description: Lawyer
Age: 31

What are the specialties of this talent?
Wienke is specialized in national and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and restructuring projects. For the most part, Wienke is involved in midmarket to high-end transaction, with strategic parties, such as this year the announced merger between COOP and PLUS, sale of ProMessa, acquisition of Telesuper Nederland and various transaction for REMONDIS. She has in-depth business knowledge with regard to the utilities and renewables and the consumer products markets. In addition, she has worked at our Dutch legal Desk, Donahue & Partners, in New York, where she gained insight in international restructuring project.

How does the talent distinguish itself from its peers?
Wienke has been with our firm for seven years and has become broadly trusted, independent M&A lawyer. She pushes teams to perfection though keeping others connected and without losing the overall view. Wienke is highly knowledgeable in respect of the legal aspects of a transaction and a strong negotiator, but is also able to quickly understand and assess other aspects that can have a profound impact on a transaction (such as tax, financial, valuation, pensions etc.) and to translate these aspects towards her clients and the transaction documentation. This combination of in-depth legal knowledge and quick insight and understanding of other relevant areas truly distinguishes Wienke from her peers.

What impact does the talent have within the organization?
From the start of her career, Wienke has been a dedicated and ambitious colleague. She quickly grew to a senior position within the firm and has strong connections throughout HVG Law and EY, which has a very positive impact within the organization and for our clients. She is a counselor to several younger lawyers and is actively involved in their training. Wienke is broadly seen as a trustworthy colleague and sought out by colleagues who may need a helping hand or a listening ear. In addition, Wienke contributes greatly to the wellbeing of HVG Law as the chairman of the works council, which role she has taken on very well and has given her a broader understanding of HVG Law as a whole.

What impact does the talent have outside the organization?
In addition to being a full-time M&A lawyer and works council chairman, Wienke is a young mother and highly dedicated to her family.

To what extent does the talent make the difference to clients?
Wienke has a significant impact on her clients. She’s recognized by several key clients as a trusted advisor, to who they turn directly with their questions. She builds strong relations with her clients. Due to her broad knowledge and quick understanding of topics outside of her own specialization, she is able to have broad conversations with her clients and help them in different areas. She easily connects them with the right colleagues at EY and HVG Law (but always making sure the job will done).

Why does the talent deserve this nomination?
Wienke deserves the nomination because she is not only an excellent M&A lawyer, but also has an impact and is a role model within our organization, while combining the challenges of young motherhood with the pressure of being a successful M&A lawyer and works council chairman. Clients, colleagues and teams just love to work with her.
